Inpatient Care

As an inpatient at Northwest Hospital & Medical Center, you’ll come into contact with many members or our health care team and support staff. The cooperative effort between these individuals ensures you receive the best possible care. Here is a list of some of the individuals you might encounter:

Physicians
Northwest Hospital & Medical Center boasts a team of physicians second to none in the Seattle area.

Inpatient Team/Hospitalists
Our inpatient team of physicians, also known as hospitalists, is a group of medical doctors who specialize in the care of patients during their hospital stay, whether the patient has a primary care provider or not. As your care progresses, our inpatient team may consult other physicians and specialists.

Nurses
Registered Nurses (RNs) and licensed practical nurses (LPNs) plan, deliver, and coordinate your bedside care. Nurses work with you and your physician to make sure your care needs are met.

Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNSs)
CNSs are registered nurses with advanced degrees and clinical expertise in a nursing specialty. CNSs serve as a resource for other nurses and keep abreast of the latest research and nursing practices to make sure you receive quality care.

Nursing Assistants
Nursing assistants have received training in basic nursing task such as personal care and blood pressure monitoring. They assist RNs and LPNs in caring for you.

Technicians and Support Personnel
You may meet various laboratory, radiology, and support personnel all dedicated to providing you quality care. They administer diagnostic tests, such as X-rays and ultrasound, and help physicians and nurses monitor your response to treatment.

Spiritual Support
Northwest Hospital welcomes and respects people of all spiritual traditions. Regardless of your religious tradition, you and your family can call on our chaplain or spiritual counselor for support.

All hospital personnel wear a nametag, and we encourage you to ask who they are and what they do.
