Dr. Young earned his medical degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo and completed his neurosurgical residency at the State University of New York Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse, New York. He has had neurosurgical appointments at multiple institutions, including the State University of New York Upstate Medical Center, the UCLA School of Medicine, and the University of California, Irvine. He left academic medicine to become Medical Director of the Northwest Hospital Gamma Knife Center when it opened in 1993. Dr. Young has published more than 100 articles in peer-reviewed journals on a variety of neurosurgical topics. Dr. Young's special interests include radiosurgery with the Gamma Knife as well as the surgical treatment of movement disorders, such as Parkinson's Disease and Essential Tremor. In his free time Dr. Young enjoys travel, classical music, opera, theater and photography.
