Dr. Carey practices eye plastic surgery. He is certified by the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (ASOPRS). Certification requires board certification in ophthalmology and an approved 2 year ASOPRS fellowship. Also required is a thesis, and passage of oral and written tests administered by ASOPRS. The field includes eyelid surgery including eyelid reconstruction following tumor removal or trauma, eyelid lifts and blepharoplasty of both the upper and lower lids for functional and cosmetic reasons. Also included in the field is tear duct surgery, management of thyroid eye disease, and orbital fracture repair.
