Seattle Breast Center Designated a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence
SEATTLE, WA - Following a rigorous review process, the Seattle Breast Center at Northwest Hospital has been designated a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology (ACR). The Breast Imaging Center of Excellence designation is awarded to breast imaging centers that demonstrate that they have achieved high practice standards in image quality, personnel qualifications, facility equipment, quality control procedures and quality assurance programs. ###
The designation recognizes that the breast imaging center has earned full accreditation from the ACR in mammography, stereotactic breast biopsy, breast ultrasound and ultrasound-guided breast biopsy. Clinics that pursue the Breast Imaging Center of Excellence designation undergo a voluntary review process that includes peer review evaluations by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field.
The Seattle Breast Center was established at Northwest Hospital & Medical Center in 1992 as the first comprehensive breast center of its kind in the Pacific Northwest. The Seattle Breast Center seeks to reduce breast cancer mortality through education and early detection, using state-of-the-art screening and diagnostic imaging technology. Its radiologists are experts in the field of breast imaging with specialized training and experience in diagnosing breast cancer.
“Being designated a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology affirms the Seattle Breast Center’s commitment to the health and well-being of our patients,” said Craig Hanson, M.D., medical director of the Seattle Breast Center. “Accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment of breast cancer depend on high-quality imaging. Our patients can be confident that their care will meet the most rigorous standards of excellence, safety and effectiveness.”
The ACR is a national organization that serves more than 32,000 diagnostic/interventional radiologists, radiation oncologists, nuclear medicine physicians and medical physicists. For more information, visit acr.org.
