Healthcare for Women of All Ages
Routine gynecologic care is important for all women of childbearing age. Regular visits with a healthcare provider will empower you to improve your health, identify issues that may impact your quality of life, and obtain timely and effective treatment when needed. Reproductive healthcare is now covered for every woman through the Affordable Care Act. Important health services that every woman with health insurance can now access without being charged a copayment or coinsurance include:
- Pelvic exams
- Cervical cancer screening (pap tests)
- Vaginal infection screening and treatment
- Contraception counseling and management
- Screening and treatment of sexually transmitted infections
- Preconception counseling
- Treatment of menstrual issues
Women can choose any primary care provider or OB-GYN in their health insurance plan’s network and cannot be denied coverage due to a pre-existing condition. Pregnancy and newborn care is included. The law also requires coverage of FDA-approved birth control, annual well-woman visits, and requires coverage of many preventive services for women including mammograms, all at no cost to women.
