The program is also suitable for returning (refresher) nurses or nurses looking to move from long-term care to acute care.

Northwest Hospital & Medical Centerís Residency Program provides you with:
  1. 12-18 weeks of precepted experience on a clinical unit and in our state-of-the-art Community Health Education & Simulation Center.
  2. Ongoing didactic classes and shadow experiences with different members of an interdisciplinary clinical team.
  3. A gradual increase in responsibility and independence while integrating theoretical and critical components of clinical practice.
  4. Support of professional growth to facilitate socialization into the organization and culture.

Our program is facilitated by expert nurses with a special emphasis on:
  • Collaborative relationships
  • Critical thinking skills
  • Leadership abilities
  • Written and verbal communication skills
  • Prioritization and organizational skills
  • Patient safety
  • Professional career development

Upon completion of the program, participants commit to one month of full-time employment for every one week of residency training provided.

All RN residency openings will be posted on the Northwest Hospital website two to three months prior to the start of the next residency. Clinical areas in the program include medical unit, surgical unit, telemetry unit, childbirth center, and sometimes the emergency department, operating room and intensive care unit.
