Board Of Trustees

Peter Evans, Chairman
Mr. Evans serves as Chairman of the NWHMC board and has been a Trustee since 1991. He also serves as chair of the Executive, Strategic Planning and Finance committees, as well as sitting on the Compensation, Foundation, Investment, Insurance, Information Systems, Audit, Governance and Strategic Planning Committees. Mr. Evans retired as Vice President and Partner at Seattle-Northwest Securities Corporation. His career included leadership positions at Boeing Aerospace, Marshall & Meyer Securities and Smith Barney. Mr. Evans earned a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and a Masters degree in Public Health, both from the University of Washington.

Scott L. Hardman, Vice Chairman
Mr. Hardman chairs the Investment committee of the HRN/ Northwest Hospital & Medical Center board. He also sits on the Finance, Foundation and Strategic Planning committees. Mr. Hardman is Managing Director of investment banking and venture capital firm, Alexander Hutton, and has extensive experience in investment banking, finance and management. He focuses on manufacturing, technology and healthcare merger transactions. In addition to his responsibilities at Alexander Hutton, he serves as the Vice President for the Americas and President-elect of M&A International. Mr. Hardman also serves on numerous other corporate, charitable and institutional boards of directors including Adaptis Inc., Tela Sourcing and Earl Palmer Ministries. Active in public affairs, he was a 1994 candidate for the United States Senate. Mr. Hardman holds several graduate degrees, including an MBA from the University of Washington.

James K. Anderson
Mr. Anderson has served on the Health Resources Northwest/Northwest Hospital board since 2000 and is currently Chairman. He also serves as the chair of the Executive and IS committees and sits on the Audit, Compensation, Foundation, Governance, Insurance and Strategic Planning committees. Mr. Anderson is president and CEO of Adaptis Inc., a healthcare business process outsourcing company. Prior to Adaptis, Mr. Anderson was President, CEO and Chairman of Pacific First Financial Corporation and Pacific First Bank, and before that, Group Senior Vice President of California Federal Savings and Loan. Prior to Cal Fed, Mr. Anderson was a management consultant for Computer Sciences, Corporation, where he set up the company’s outsourcing division. Mr. Anderson has also served as Chairman of the Board of Everlast Worldwide, Inc., chair of the strategic planning committee for the Board of Directors for Northwest Healthcare Insurance Services and Washington Casualty Company, and Chairman of the Board of Overseers of Whitman College. Mr. Anderson has also served on the boards of numerous other business, civic, art and educational organizations, including: Tela Sourcing, Inc., Multicare Health System, Tacoma/Pierce County Economic Development Council, the Corporate Council for the Arts and Reality-Based Learning. Mr. Anderson received a Bachelor of Arts from Whitman College, and has continued to pursue post-graduate study in business and management.

Edward Buchwald
As a member of the HRN/ Northwest Hospital & Medical Center board, Mr. Buchwald chairs the Insurance committee and also sits on the Finance committee. Mr. Buchwald retired as President of Johnson & Higgins, the world’s largest privately-held insurance brokerage firm, following a 25-year tenure with the company in Seattle and Massachusetts. Prior to Johnson & Higgins, Mr. Buchwald was President of Kodiak Insurance Inc. He started his career as an adjuster with Aetna after receiving his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Baltimore. Mr. Buchwald sits on several other boards, including Portage Bay Insurance Company.

Shaiza Damji
Ms. Damji sits on the Building, Audit, Foundation and Quality Standards committees of the HRN/ Northwest Hospital & Medical Center board. Ms. Damji is managing director for the 360° Hotel Group and has held senior positions for the group since 1999. As managing director, she oversees operations, sales, financing and capital improvements of the group’s three hotels. Before joining the 360° Hotel Group, Ms. Damji worked for four years as an associate attorney with New York-based international law firm Cleary, Gottlieb, Steen & Hamilton. Damji has been actively involved with the Washington State Hotel & Lodging Association, having served on the Board, Executive Committee and as the Chairperson (2005-2006). She is currently a board member for the Seattle Hotel Association and the Northgate Chamber of Commerce. She also holds the position as representative to Northgate Stakeholders Group for the Northgate Chamber of Commerce. She attended Yale University and graduated summa cum laude with a B.A. in history. She then received her law degree cum laude from Harvard Law School. She is a member of the Yale Alumni Schools Committee.

Pamela Fowler
Pamela Fowler serves as the Global Industry Director, Healthcare for CA Technologies (formerly Computer Associates). She is a healthcare market evangelist for this $4B company that sells enterprise infrastructure management software into the payer, provider, pharmaceutical, and government market segments. Ms. Fowler’s career also has included executive leadership positions at EDS, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Adaptis, and MedicaLogic/GE Healthcare. She also managed the healthcare trust for the Washington Technology Industry Association while she was COO of this trade organization. She has an extensive background in electronic medical records applications, claims management systems, ambulatory clinic processes and health programs for the underserved. Ms. Fowler earned a Bachelor of Arts from Brown University and a Masters of Business Administration from the Thunderbird School of Global Management. She is an 11 year member of HIMSS, a corporate benefactor of Friends of the Orphans/Nuestros Pequenos Hermanos, and a former board of trustee at Eastside Catholic School.

Terry L. Lengfelder
As a member of the HRN/ Northwest Hospital & Medical center board, Mr. Lengfelder is Chairman of the Audit and Foundation committees, as well as a member of the Building, Compensation, Finance and Strategic Planning committees. Mr. Lengfelder is a retired consultant in business management, finance and accounting. Prior to his years of consultancy, he spent almost four decades at Arthur Anderson & Co. in a wide variety of management positions, the most recent of which was Managing Partner of Global Service Quality. Mr. Lengfelder is Chairman of the Technical Advisory Committee. He also sits on the board of the Lanoga Corporation, where he chairs the compensation committee, and on the board of CDW Inc., where he serves on the audit and governance committees. He received Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Washington University in St. Louis, MO.

William J. Rex
Mr. Rex chairs the Governance Committee of the HRN / Northwest Hospital & Medical Center board, as well as sitting on the Building, Compensation, Finance, Investment and Strategic Planning committees. He recently retired as Managing Director of Prudential Securities Inc. and currently serves in an advisory role at Wachovia Securities Inc. Prior to Prudential Securities, Mr. Rex was President of Picnic Point Development Company, Ltd. Concurrently, he was Executive Vice President at Shearson Lehman Brothers and President of Foster & Marshall Realty and Mortgage Company, where he had previously held the title of Senior Executive Vice President. Prior to Foster & Marshall, Mr. Rex held Vice President positions at John Nuveen & Company and at Merrill Lynch Pierce Fenner & Smith, consecutively. Mr. Rex has a long history of leadership, membership and participation in dozens of civic, business and charitable boards and organizations. In addition to the Northwest Hospital board, he currently sits on the board of the Museum of Flight. Mr. Rex graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education from Grinnell College in Iowa.

Johnese Spisso, RN, MPA
Ms. Spisso is the Chief Health System Officer for UW Medicine Health System, the Vice President for Medical Affairs, University of Washington, and clinical faculty in Biobehavioral Sciences and Management at the University Of Washington School Of Nursing.

Ms. Spisso has over 25 years experience in health care leadership positions. She has worked at UW Medicine for the past 16 years. During her 15 years at Harborview Medical Center she was promoted from Chief Nursing Officer to Chief Operating Officer, and served as the interim Executive Director prior to being promoted to her current position in 2007. Previously Ms. Spisso worked for the University of California Davis Medical Center (12 years) and the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (2 years).

Ms. Spisso currently serves on the Governing board of the University HealthCare Consortium, the National Association of Public Hospitals, the American Hospital Association Regional Policy Board, the American Heart Association, Villa Academy, First Choice Health Plan Board, and Pacific Northwest Ballet. She also serves as Chair of the King County Health Care Coalition.

Ms. Spisso has a Bachelors Degree in Health Sciences from Chapman College and a Master’s Degree in Health Care Administration from the University of San Francisco.

Marian Svinth
Ms. Svinth chairs the Quality Standards committee of the HRN/ Northwest Hospital & Medical Center board. Ms. Svinth is a long-time organizational consultant and community volunteer. As founder of MK Svinth & Associates, she consulted with companies on human resources and organizational behavior and development strategies. Prior to that Ms. Svinth worked at Simpson Investment Company for nearly two decades, as Corporate Training Administrator, Employee Development Manager and, most recently, Business Unit Human Resource Manager. Ms. Svinth is a member of the Workforce Training & Education Coordinating Board, Seattle King County Private Industry Council Board, Governor’s Council on Investment in Human Capital, Governor’s Council on Educational Reform, Subgroup on School to Work Transition, Washington State Job Training Coordinating Council, Seattle Youth Investment Board of Directors, Association of Washington Business, and Organization Development Network. She received her Bachelor of Science in Dietetics/Nutrition from Washington State University, a Masters in Personnel Administration from Indiana University, and a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the University of Oregon.
